Based out of Flint, Michigan, Miles Beyond was a wonderful breath of fresh air release to get a chance to review. Well-recorded traditional American power metal is always welcome at 1heavymetal.com!
First off, I have to compliment the vocals of Tim Moody. Moody possesses the perfect vocal delivery for Miles Beyond and sounds extremely similar to Eirikur Hauksson of Artch with a hint of Bruce Dickinson thrown in for good measure.
Lead track "Out Of Control" would make an excellent metal radio single with instantly memorable riffs and hooks. "Tales Of Old" features a lethal guitar attack led by Moody and Paul O. The guitar heroics continue into "Miles Beyond" which calls to mind older Armored Saint. The gallop of "Take Me Back Home" and "Vlad The Impaler" harken back to the glory days of Iron Maiden. "Still Strong" sounds like a cross between Metallica and Artch with its deliberate pacing.
"Rock Revolution" drifts away from the power metal pacing of the disc with more of a stripped down straight ahead sound while "Stowaway" gallops right back into the Maidenish styling. Closing track "A Call To Odin" features sounds powerful gang vocals and sounds like a march to war (ala Manowar) with a subtle break that leads into powerful finale.
Overall, I personally can never get enough of bands that place this style of metal that shy away from the obnoxious keyboard riffs. Miles Beyond has instantly stepped into the American power metal elite with this release and look to have a bright future ahead.
